Further thoughts on the pedagogy of palaeography and codicology

In order to further discussion, the format of this colloquium varied from the 2016 format. Morning and afternoon sessions each consisted of two panels running concurrently on particular topics (1½ hours) followed by a plenary session (1 hour) in which the members of the two panels were asked to report and comment on the panel session to all of the delegates, and facilitate further discussion.

Each panel had four members. Panel members each offered 10–15 minute presentations on the topic in question before the discussion was opened up to delegates.

The panels were:

1. Continental and Anglophone approaches to teaching palaeography and codicology
2. Pedagogical approaches to musical manuscripts
3. Approaches to teaching art history and manuscript studies
4. Taking palaeography further: using manuscripts to engage in outreach with schools and the general public.

Closing remarks were given by Dr Teresa Webber, Reader in Palaeography, University of Cambridge.
