Matthew Owens Organ Recital

Date: Friday 11 April 2025
Time: 13:00 - 14:10

Carson Cooman, one of the most prolific American composers and Composer in Residence at the Memorial Church, Harvard University, has written orchestral, chamber, instrumental, choral, and operatic works, with over 1,500 works to his name. His 25 Preludes and Fugues for organ were commissioned by Matthew Owens, and the cycle is receiving its first performance at the Passiontide at Merton festival. Conceived as a large-scale cycle, Cooman’s 25 Preludes and Fugues for organ work their way through the major and minor keys in the composer’s distinctive style, concluding with a homage to the great J.S. Bach through the classic B-A-C-H theme.
