Common Rooms

Junior Common Room (JCR)

The Junior Common Room comprises three shared spaces for the undergraduate community.  The main room is used for a range of social events and is a place for students to meet and relax.  Many societies and groups use the JCR for meetings and activities but it’s available at all times as a comfy and informal space.

Next to the JCR is the TV room, providing a TV, Nintendo Switch and DVD equipment, a number of sofas and beanbags.

The final JCR Room is the shared kitchen.

Middle Common Room (MCR)

The beautiful Middle Common Room (MCR) on the main College site is accommodated in a medieval Hall in Front Quad and is one of Merton’s oldest rooms. It is used for regular events and is currently undergoing refurbishment to improve decoration and install a platform lift, enabling better access.

Merton’s graduate housing at the Holywell site also benefits from its own common room, the KCR (Kris Kristofferson Common Room). This offers a a baby grand piano, billiards table, board games, a television, and gaming consoles.  The Holywell Summerhouse  is a place to relax on sunny days, for a BBQ with friends.
