Dr Catherine Paxton

Senior Tutor

This full-time post combines three offices formerly held by tutorial fellows who also had teaching and research responsibilities: the Senior Tutor, the Tutor for Admissions, and the Tutor for Graduates.

Background

Catherine read History at Corpus Christi College, Oxford before undertaking a DPhil on the nunneries of London in the Later Middle Ages.  She was a Senior Scholar at Lincoln College and a Scouloudi Research Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research in London.

She joined the National Health Service as a General Management Trainee in 1992 and held a variety of posts  in NHS Trusts and the Oxfordshire Health Authority.

Catherine was appointed Merton’s first full-time Senior Tutor in 2003.  After a five year spell in the post she departed to work as Project Consultant at Wellington Square in the University Administration and Services.  During 2010-11 she spent a year in Boston, MA with her family.  Her second term as Senior Tutor began in September 2011.
