Merton@750 project launches exciting new online collection

The Merton@750 project has launched an online collection of Merton memories that paint a picture of life at Merton in its 750th anniversary year.

The Merton@750 Anniversary Collection allows visitors to browse items in Merton’s historic archive, as well as donate their own stories, images and memorabilia to a digital archive to be stored for future generations to enjoy.

Merton@750 Project Officer, Catherine Farfan, says:

"We're the first Oxford college to run a project like this, which makes it a very exciting endeavour.  We've been lucky enough to have the support of the University IT Services' RunCoCo team to help us build the website, and we hope the project will lead the way for future collecting projects across the university.

"We're really excited to see what items will be contributed by Mertonians with photographs, stories and other memorabilia in their private collections they'd like to share with us.  The beauty of an online collection is that we can all share these stories with each other whilst still keeping hold of those treasured memories in their physical form – win-win all round!

"Although the site may look a little empty at the moment, the Anniversary Collection will grow throughout 2014.  Not only will we be adding items from Merton’s 750-year-old archive throughout the year, but we're encouraging anyone with a Merton story to tell to share it through the Anniversary Collection. So keep checking back to discover new photos, items and stories.

"Merton@750 will be at Merton's Birthday Weekend, so if you are planning to take part in our anniversary celebrations, remember to bring your photos, stories and other college-related items with you. The Merton@750 team will then be able to add them to the Anniversary Collection on your behalf."
