Convening Fellow: Dr. Julia Amos

Dr. Julia Amos is the Peter J Braam Research Lecturer at Merton College, a member of the OxPeace Steering Committee and the Oxford Peace Research Trust, and a member of the Department Of International Development, where she is based as a Research Associate. Her current research is focused on civil wars, investigating the impact of how non-state armed groups are organised on how such conflicts can best be countered and resolved. She also studies the role of non-state or Track Two mediation initiatives. She holds has a doctorate in Development Studies from Oxford and an MPhil in the same subject, for which she was awarded the top distinction in 2006 and received the Eugene Havas Memorial Prize for Distinguished Performance. She also holds a first in her BA (Hons) from the University of York. She has travelled extensively in West Africa for her research, studying conflict affected communities first-hand. Areas of specialisation include inter-group conflict, ethnicity, conflict resolution, NGOs and non-state peacebuilding organisations, human security, New Humanitarianism, traditional leadership and traditional leadership institutions.

External Relations Officer: Niels Goet
Niels Goet

Niels Goet a DPhil candidate in Politics in the Department of Politics and International Relations, Oxford. His research interests include institutional change in parliaments (with a focus on plenary debates), electoral systems, and EU foreign policy. He previously obtained an MPhil in European Politics and Society (Oxford, with distinction), and studied International Relations (BA, with distinction) at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, and spent some time at Sciences Po Paris.

Social Events Officer: Arthur Learoyd

Arthur Learoyd is an MPhil student in International Relations at Merton. Prior to starting the MPhil, he completed a BA in History and Politics, also at Merton. He is interested in hierarchy in the international system, theories of the state in international relations, and the connections between international relations theory and imperial history.
