Professor Minhyong Kim

Tutor in Mathematics and Professor of Number Theory
Research

I work primarily in the area of arithmetical algebraic geometry, where one studies questions of an arithmetic nature, say, concerning numbers and algebraic equations, using techniques of geometry and topology. I am also interested in the foundations of mathematical physics, especially the interaction between topological quantum field theory and arithmetical algebraic geometry.

Teaching

I teach a variety of topics in the undergraduate syllabus with an emphasis on courses in number theory and algebra. I teach graduate courses and supervise PhD students in arithmetical algebraic geometry.

I occasionally teach Physics students taking Maths options, am co-Director of Studies at Merton for the Master's programme in mathematical physics, and co-organise an MMathPhys working seminar with Professor Schekochihin.
