Dr Umut Baysan

Departmental Lecturer in Philosophy

Umut is a Departmental Lecturer in Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy and at Merton College. Previously, he had a similar position at St Anne's College, and before that he worked as a Lecturer and a Postdoctoral Researcher in Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. His PhD is also from the University of Glasgow.

Umut specialises in philosophy of mind and metaphysics. For details of his research and publications, see his personal webpage.

At Merton, he teaches tutorials in General Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, Knowledge & Reality, Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophy of Cognitive Science. For the Faculty of Philosophy, he has been teaching undergraduate lectures (in Philosophy of Mind, Practical Ethics) and graduate classes (on Emergence). He also offers graduate supervision (BPhil and DPhil), primarily in philosophy of mind.
