Part of the Passiontide at Merton festival, Arvo Pärt's sublime Stabat Mater was performed by the Marian Consort and the Carducci String Quartet. The Marian Consort, directed by Rory McCleery, has been praised for 'performances that glow with golden purity and soul' (The Scotsman), and the Carducci String Quartet is recognized as one of the finest quartets working today ('stunning', The Times). They were joined by the Choir of Merton College under Benjamin Nicholas, singing various works including the world première of Emily Levy's In Paradisum.
