The Berkeley Sinfonia gave their première performance alongside the Choir of Merton College in an evening that included James MacMillan’s masterpiece Seven Last Words, a cantata which sets the final seven sentences Jesus uttered. The programme also included Arvo Pärt’s Silouan’s Song, subtitled 'my soul yearns after the Lord', and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis for double string orchestra, heard alongside Tallis's hymn that inspired it.
