Chemistry; Biochemistry
I characterise the chemistry of the molecules which enable bacteria to live using compounds like hydrogen and carbon monoxide as fuels. To date my research has been aimed at proving that efficient and active systems exist in biology which catalyse reactions which mankind would like harness in technology (like hydrogen fuel cells which do not need the precious metal platinum). I am now expanding my research to focus on how important these molecules are in the survival of bacteria which can cause disease in humans. Electrochemistry and protein purification methods are fundamental to my work, and I wish to become more experienced in biochemical and biological analytical techniques.
