All Mertonians automatically become life members of The Merton Society on matriculation. The Society runs a programme of events in conjunction with the Development Office, giving Old Members the opportunity to keep in touch with the College and with each other. Activities range from drinks parties and dinners to lectures and sports (spectating and participating). The popular Merton Society Weekend is held in College every June – a lively mixture of exhibitions, tours, sports and talks by distinguished Mertonians and College academics.

Merton in the City Association

The Merton in the City Association has been created for Mertonians who are active in a broad area of work related to life in the City of London - with the aim of providing a forum at which they will be able to meet old friends and build networks.

Merton Lawyers Association

Law at Merton is thriving and, in the London area alone, there are currently some 150 (Old) Mertonians working in the Legal Profession, including many who turned to the law after reading another subject.

The College normally admit 8 undergraduates a year to read for the three-year BA Law Degree, and the four-year BA Law with Law Studies in Europe degree (LSE). This means that there is a total of around 24 Law undergraduates (and 8 graduates) in College at any one time. In recent years Merton Lawyers have produced excellent results in their final examinations with a good number of first-class degrees.

Thus it was felt timely to create the Merton Lawyers Association, both to enable and enhance professional contacts within the group and to strengthen the ties between Mertonians and the College.

Visit our events calendar to learn more about any upcoming MLA events.

Compassionate Fund

The Merton College Compassionate Fund exists to assist members of the College and their dependents who find themselves in financial difficulty.
Grants are normally made to assist Mertonians at times of unforeseen financial hardship (which may be the result of unemployment, illness, bereavement, or other changes in personal circumstances). For further information, please contact the Chaplain, Dr Simon Jones.
