Old Members passing through Oxford are more than welcome to stop by the Development Office for a cup of coffee. If you give us some warning we’ll be sure to set aside some time to catch up!
Be sure to take a look at our new accommodation and travel information page.
Merton College congratulates all students eligible to graduate, whether you have completed your undergraduate degree, postgraduate Masters or doctorate.
Degrees are not automatically conferred at the end of the course but rather at a degree ceremony, for which Old Members need to book in advance. There are 10 ceremonies each year at which degrees can be conferred in person or in absentia. Some ceremonies are booked up many months in advance, so be sure to book ahead if you want to attend in person.
N.B. *denotes this date is already full
Trinity Term 2013 Ceremony starts at 11am
* Saturday 18 May
* Saturday 8 June
If you have any questions at all about your degree ceremony, please contact Ruth Bryant. For degree ceremonies from July 2013 onwards please visit the Oxford University degree ceremonies page or contact Ruth Bryant.
All applicants will receive their degree certifcates either directly after the ceremony if attending in person, or through the post if in absentia. If for any reason you do not receive your certificate or a current certificate is lost or damaged, then degree certificates can be obtained by completing the Degree Certificate Order Form [Adobe .pdf], which should be submitted to the Examination Schools.
If you have not yet taken your degree at a degree ceremony, but need confirmation that you are entitled to your degree, the University can supply you with a letter confirming your status. Download a degree confirmation order form [Adobe .pdf]. More information is available on the Oxford University website.
It is always a great pleasure to see Mertonians in Chapel for a service or a visit. Our main service of the week is on Sunday evening at 5.45 pm. If you are coming to Oxford on a Sunday during term time, you would be most welcome to join us. Please see the Chapel and Choir section for details.
Merton M.A.s and Mertonian holders of any higher Oxford degree are warmly invited to dine up to six times a year at their own expense at High Table in Hall (but are not able to invite guests). On guest nights (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during full term) they may attend dessert free of charge. Dinner begins at 7.15 pm and those dining gather in the Queen’s Room (or the Upper Bursary outside term) from 7pm.
Please notify Natalia Harris (01865 276 288) before 10.00 am on the day you are dining, or before 10.00 am on Friday if you are dining on a Sunday.
Gowns are worn in Hall during Full Term. Gentlemen wear Black Tie when dining on Sunday evenings during Full Term.
